Exploring Kyrgyzstan: 10 Days with Weng Yi

Our recent adventure with Weng Yi from Malaysia was an unforgettable exploration of Kyrgyzstan’s breathtaking landscapes and rich traditions. Over ten days, we traversed the stunning mountains, valleys, and lakes, experiencing the country’s unique culture. Here’s a recap of our journey:

Day 1: Arrival in Bishkek

After welcoming Weng Yi at the bus station, where she arrived from Uzbekistan, we transferred her to a guest Grand hot in Bishkek for a much-needed rest. Firstly we went to change money. For us it was easy to change, because we changed only dollars that’s why we didn’t spend time for looking for currency, here in Bishkek you can easily change dollars. After we had late breakfast at Navat restaurant. After we drove to Grand hotel to check in. Weng Yi was tired because she was 14 hours on a way from Tashkent to Bishkek. Later, we took a city tour to explore Ala-Too Square. After a delicious lunch at a Kyrgyz restaurant, we enjoyed some free time before gathering for a hearty dinner at a local spot. She overnighted in a Grand hotel.

Day 2: Bishkek to Chon-Kemin

We set off in the morning for Chon-Kemin National Park, stopping to visit the historic Burana Tower en route. Upon arrival in Karool Dobo village, we were warmly welcomed by a local family for lunch. After enjoying the serene nature, we spent the night in a homestay, indulging in traditional Kyrgyz hospitality.

Day 3: Chon-Kemin to Karakol

On Day 3, We started the day early with a visit to Konorchek Canyon. A 2-hour hike through the striking red rock formations offered spectacular views and photo opportunities. We drove toward Karakol, taking in the 6 hr of the journey. We stayed at the welcoming Guljan Eje’s guesthouse, where we were treated to warm hospitality. After settling in, we had dinner at Dastorkon restaurant, which offered a wonderful taste of Kyrgyz cuisine.

Day 4: Hiking from Irdik Valley to Seven Bulls (Jeti-Oguz)

Today’s adventure took us on a challenging 6-hour hike from Irdik Valley to the famous Seven Bulls (Jeti-Oguz), known for their dramatic red rock formations. The hike was a highlight of the trip, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Afterward, we drove to Beltam Yurt Camp near Issyk-Kul Lake, where we spent the night in a traditional Kyrgyz yurt.

Day 5: Eagle Show and Archery, Hike Near Issyk-Kul Lake

On Day 5, we enjoyed an exciting eagle show, where Weng Yi even got to try archery. The eagle show was a favorite of hers, and she loved the chance to interact with the magnificent birds. We followed this with a hike around Issyk-Kul Lake and through a canyon, taking in the beautiful surroundings before returning to our guest house for the night.

Day 6: Transfer to Kizil Oy

We explored more of Kyrgyz culture today, visiting a yurt factory in Kizil Tuu, and a felt craft center in Kochkor. These visits provided insight into Kyrgyz traditions, yurt-making, and felt crafting. We then drove to Kizil Oy, where we stayed in a lovely homestay nestled in the Tien Shan Mountains.

Day 7: Hiking in Kizil Oy Region

We spent the day hiking in the stunning mountains surrounding Kizil Oy. A picnic in the mountains offered a peaceful respite, followed by some free time to relax by the Kokomeren River. The tranquil setting was the perfect place to unwind before another exciting day.

Day 8: Transfer to Toktogul

We continued our journey with a visit to the Kojomkul Museum and lunch in Chychkan Canyon by the river. Instead of the planned hike, we drove to Toktogul Reservoir, where we admired the striking mountain scenery. We spent the night in a local family house in Toktogul.

Day 9: Horseback Riding with Nurlan Baike’s horses

In the village of Ozgorush, we met Nurlan Baike, whose horses we took on a scenic ride through the mountains. Afterward, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at his house, learning more about the local culture and hospitality. We then returned to Toktogul for a restful evening at our guest house.

Day 10: Transfer to Bishkek and Departure

On the final day, we made our way back to Bishkek, where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch before heading straight to Manas Airport for Weng Yi’s departure.

This journey through Kyrgyzstan was an incredible mix of nature, adventure, and cultural discovery, leaving us with lasting memories of the country’s beauty and warm hospitality.
